Lucky scent: Fragrance Wheel

Roles + Fields
User research, web design

Methods
Framer, Figma, HTML/CSS

Finding a personal scent can be a daunting undertaking for anyone starting on their perfume journey. In this website project I designed and built an interactive fragrance wheel to make perfume discovery more approachable and fun.

Using Framer and it’s variant, interaction, overlay and effect functions, I built the animated site from scratch, a proposal for Lucky Scent.

PrototypingFocusing on the novice user journey, I wireframed an interactive fragrance wheel that maps scent families and notes, linked with pages and notes of emblematic fragrances to familiarize the user with notes descriptions, familiar products, and qualities.

With the project set closely to Lucky Scent, I expanded from the familiar color palette and font families.

Research + ContextLucky Scent and Fragrantica are the two most used online perfume resources and e-commerce sites. Through research I learned through how unapproachble these resources are for a new perfume user to discover their first few perfumes. With the layout and dense information on the sites, it is for a new user to become inundated and overwhelmed with information.

Having defined the scope and goals to:

  • How can I help new users make the online perfume shopping more approachable?
  • How can I give the blind-buyer more confidence in their selection with and understanding of notes?

I mapped two kinds of user journeys on the existing Lucky Scent website, and focused the design for the novice user/buyer.
